TrailWatch: Your Best Hiking Guide

Hike with a purpose: participate in safeguarding Hong Kong's country parks!

TrailWatch is the pioneering smartphone application in Hong Kong that harmonizes conservation efforts with the admiration for Hong Kong's country parks.

When engaging with TrailWatch, users have the ability to monitor their hikes in real-time through GPS technology and contribute to countryside surveillance by reporting noteworthy incidents. Moreover, hikers can design and share their hiking paths while also exploring routes shared by other members.

Key Features

 <li>Hiking record: Complement your hike logs with personal photos and data refined by the app, encompassing details like elevation, length, distance, speed, and calories burned.</li>
 <li>Browse routes: Discover highlighted trails or nearby routes and save them—or tailor them to match your preferences. Search for featured routes nearby and begin tracking or customize and save them based on your liking.</li>
 <li>Plan routes: Easily map out routes by selecting start and end points—the app will take care of outlining the remaining trail. Users can personalize the route and incorporate points of interest if desired.</li>
 <li>Invite friends: Establish a group tracking event and extend invitations to your TrailWatch contacts. Invitations include all necessary event details such as route specifics and meeting locations.</li>
 <li>Locate friends: During a group tracking event, participants can track real-time locations of all members via internet data. This functionality ensures that even those who stray off-track can be located.</li>
 <li>Share photos: Photos captured by group members are automatically shared with all participants in the group tracking event without requiring additional settings.</li>
 <li>Race standings: The durations taken by individual members to conclude a group tracking event are published post-event.</li>
</ul>

Furthermore, users are encouraged to play an active role in conserving country parks by reporting unusual occurrences while hiking. A new incident category named "Concrete Path" enables users to report concrete paths found along hiking trails.

TrailWatch offers a variety of maps including TrailWatch HK Map, TrailWatch Terrain Map, Open Cycle Map, and MapBox Streets Map.

About TrailWatch

TrailWatch serves as a mobile app and online community enabling individuals, groups, and organizations to monitor their hikes, arrange events, exchange hiking experiences with fellow users, and assist in monitoring the condition of Hong Kong's country parks. Additionally, users can access TrailWatch's library of Creative Commons images for educational endeavors and discussions.

Funded by the WYNG Foundation established in 2011 with the mission to educate, research, and engage individuals and institutions, TrailWatch endeavors to support platforms for information exchange that enhance societal well-being through knowledge acquisition and application.
